Vickie Burick: Photographer, Musician & more...
Born in a small town on the inner peninsula of southern Maryland, Vickie grew up with her sisters, brother, parents and pets, surrounded by good neighbors, flat tobacco fields and woodland forests. Her love for nature was earned honestly as she and her siblings spent a lot of their time playing and exploring outside.
Vickie’s true joy from elementary school through college was (and still remains) music-- she adores singing. Somewhere along the way she picked up her family’s Polaroid camera and a love for photography developed. Vickie earned a BA in Psychology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, where she leaned heavily on choir and photo club as a means of keeping balance with her studies. Her last semester at college was spent on an internship in Georgia, teaching Environmental Education, and upon graduating she moved south to continue working teaching Environmental Ed.
Vickie eventually moved to North Carolina to work as a mentor-naturalist at the Green River Preserve in Cedar Mountain. Leading youth on mentor hikes and teaching classes in nature gave Vickie the unique photographers eye that she uses to find intricate beauty in the natural world. She made her way to Asheville NC to establish herself as a musician in 2001, and continued studying and honing her skill set in photography through classes at Blue Ridge Community College as well as in the company of fellow photographers.
Vickie Burick Photography launched in 2017, as did her band Many a Ship, weaving together a career based in her love of nature, music and photography. Vickie spends her time working in the Asheville area and beyond, taking photos for both session and gallery work, creating music with her bandmates, and she can also be found making coffee at Allgood Coffee in Weaverville, NC.
Vickie's photographic work has been displayed in Asheville at The Grey Eagle, Plant, West End Bakery, The Big Crafty, and Frame it to a T and at Zuma Coffee in Marshall NC. Her photography collection “Among the Trees, Behold the Stars” is currently hanging at Allgood Coffee, Weaverville, NC, and additional work can be found at http://vickieburick.zenfolio.com.
